Barakatuh.
If someone harvests 500 bowls of rice, how many bowls should they give as Zakat? Furthermore, if they obtain an additional 146 bowls, making a total of 646 bowls, how much should they give as Zakat? May Allah reward you abundantly.

The amount of Zakat payable on
agricultural produce depends on how the crops were irrigated, as explained by
the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
He said:
Arabic:
فِيمَا
سَقَتِ السَّمَاءُ وَالْعُيُونُ أَوْ كَانَ عَثَرِيًّا الْعُشْرُ، وَمَا سُقِيَ
بِالنَّضْحِ نِصْفُ الْعُشْرِ
English translation:
“On what is watered by rain,
springs, or natural water sources, or receives water naturally, one-tenth is
due as Zakat (10%). On what is irrigated using artificial means, half of
one-tenth is due (5%).”
— Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 1483.
Therefore, the calculation is as
follows:
1.
If the Farm Was Irrigated by Rainwater
The Zakat rate is 10%.
- 500 bowls × 10% = 50 bowls.
- 146 bowls × 10% = 14.6 bowls.
Total harvest:
500 + 146 = 646 bowls.
Zakat payable:
646 × 10% = 64.6 bowls.

If the Farm Was Irrigated Using Artificial Methods
The Zakat rate is 5%.
646 × 5% = 32.3 bowls.

If Both Rainwater and Artificial Irrigation Were Used
Where both methods contribute
significantly to irrigation, a rate of 7.5% may be used, depending on the
circumstances and the relevant scholarly ruling.
646 × 7.5% = 48.45 bowls.

Note on the Nisab

harvest has reached the minimum threshold (nisab) required for
agricultural Zakat and that the same measuring bowl is used throughout.
The agricultural Zakat nisab is five
wasaq. It is commonly estimated at approximately 653 kilograms, although
the precise weight can vary depending on the type of produce and the method of
measurement.
Therefore, before calculating the
Zakat, one should establish whether the harvest has reached the required nisab.
