QUESTION ❓
Assalamu
Alaikum, Sheikh.
Good evening. May
Allah guide us to what is right.
Please, I would like you to explain the meanings of some dreams. I have heard that dreaming of a gathering of people may indicate someone's death, and that dreaming of raw meat also signifies death. I would also like to know what it means to dream of teeth falling out.
Are these
interpretations correct according to Islam?

Wa Alaikumus Salam

blessings be upon him).
Dear questioner,
it is important to understand that not every dream has a specific
interpretation, and no one should conclude that a dream predicts death merely
because it involves falling teeth, a gathering of people, or raw meat.
Many
interpretations circulate in traditional dream-interpretation books and popular
culture. However, such interpretations should not automatically be attributed
to the Qur'an, the authentic Sunnah, or particular scholars without reliable
evidence.
1.
Dreaming of Teeth Falling Out
Some traditional
dream-interpretation accounts associate teeth with relatives, family
relationships, or other aspects of a person's life. Certain accounts also
distinguish between upper and lower teeth.
However, these
symbolic interpretations are not established rules in the Qur'an or authentic
Sunnah. It is therefore not appropriate to conclude that falling teeth
necessarily indicate the death of a relative, a long life, the repayment of
debts, the arrival of a child, or the loss of wealth.
The details of a
dream alone do not provide reliable evidence for predicting such events.
If you dream of
your teeth falling out, you should not become frightened or assume that someone
in your family will die. The dream may have no special significance, and its
meaning cannot be established merely by relying on popular interpretations.
2.
Dreaming of a Gathering of People
A gathering may
appear in a dream in many forms: a celebration, a religious meeting, a family
occasion, a funeral, or a crowd of unfamiliar people.
Some traditional
interpreters assign different symbolic meanings to these scenes. Nevertheless,
there is no general rule in the Qur'an and authentic Sunnah stating that
dreaming of a gathering means someone will die.
A gathering in a
dream should not be treated as a prediction of death, illness, conflict,
prosperity, or any other future event without reliable evidence.
Even if the
gathering resembles a funeral or people appear distressed, the dream does not
establish that a real death or calamity will occur.
Muslims should
avoid frightening themselves or others with interpretations that have no sound
religious basis.
3.
Dreaming of Raw Meat
Raw meat is
another subject to which different meanings have been assigned in traditional
dream interpretation.
Some
interpretations associate it with hardship, while others connect it with
wealth, family matters, or speaking about other people. However, these are not
universal meanings established by authentic Islamic texts.
It is particularly
important not to conclude that seeing raw meat means death is approaching.
Neither the mere sight of raw meat nor the act of seeing people distribute it
provides reliable evidence that someone will die.
Likewise, a person
should not assume that a dream proves that they have committed backbiting, will
experience illness, or will receive wealth.
The circumstances
of a dream may differ from one person to another, and its meaning cannot be
determined with certainty from a single symbol.
4.
What Does Islam Teach About Dreams?
The Prophet
Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) explained that dreams fall into
different categories: good dreams, distressing dreams, and dreams arising from
a person's own thoughts and experiences.
This teaching is
reported in Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2263.
Consequently, not
every dream carries a message about the future. Some dreams may reflect a
person's worries, memories, daily experiences, or fears.
Allah also says:
Arabic:
قُل لَّا يَعْلَمُ مَن فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ
الْغَيْبَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ
Transliteration:
Qul lā yaʿlamu
man fis-samāwāti wal-arḍi al-ghayba illā Allāh.
English
translation:
“Say, ‘None in the
heavens and earth knows the unseen except Allah.’”
Reference: Qur'an 27:65.
This verse reminds
us that knowledge of the unseen belongs to Allah. A dream should not be used to
make definite claims about someone's death or future.
5.
What Should You Do After a Disturbing Dream?
If you experience
a frightening dream, the Sunnah teaches you to seek Allah's protection rather
than become consumed by fear.
The Prophet (peace
and blessings be upon him) instructed that a person who sees an unpleasant
dream should:
1.
Seek refuge in Allah from Satan and from the evil of the dream.
2.
Spit lightly and dryly to the left three times.
3.
Turn to the other side.
4.
Avoid telling people about the disturbing dream.
5.
Pray if desired.
These instructions
are reported in authentic narrations in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih
Muslim.
A Muslim should
place their trust in Allah, continue with their daily responsibilities, and
avoid making important decisions based solely on dreams.
CONCLUSION
Dreaming of
falling teeth, a gathering of people, or raw meat does not establish that
someone will die. Although various traditional interpretations exist, they
should not be presented as certain Islamic teachings without reliable evidence.
If you experience
such dreams, do not allow them to create unnecessary fear or suspicion. Follow
the guidance of the Qur'an and authentic Sunnah, seek Allah's protection when
disturbed by a dream, and remember that knowledge of the unseen belongs to Him alone.
