The Question
Question:
Assalamu Alaikum,
Sheikh. May Allah grant you good health, a long life, and continued blessings.
I had a dream in which I heard my approximately 14-year-old daughter crying for help near the entrance of our home. A dog was chasing her, and she was desperately seeking assistance. The dog eventually bit her around the ankle, and I saw blood coming out.
Please, what is
the Islamic interpretation of this dream?
The
Answer
Wa
Alaikumussalam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
May Allah protect
you and your daughter, grant your family peace of mind, and keep you safe from
harm.
Dear sister, a
dream involving your child being chased and injured can understandably cause
fear and anxiety. However, it is important to approach such dreams in
accordance with authentic Islamic teachings rather than assuming that every
detail predicts a particular event.
1.
Does the Dog Represent an Enemy?
There is no
reliable Islamic evidence that seeing a dog in a dream necessarily means that
an enemy is trying to harm you or your daughter.
Likewise, the fact
that the dog chased your daughter towards your home does not establish that
danger is approaching your family. A dream alone cannot prove that someone has
bad intentions, that your daughter is being targeted, or that a harmful event
will occur.
2.
What Does Your Daughter's Crying and Seeking Help Mean?
Hearing your
daughter cry in a dream may have been particularly distressing because of your
concern for her well-being. However, it does not establish that she is
experiencing a hidden problem, facing bullying, or suffering emotionally in
real life.
As a parent, you
can continue to give her attention, listen to her concerns, and provide a safe
environment in which she feels comfortable discussing anything that troubles
her. These are sensible parenting practices regardless of the dream.
3.
Does the Dog Bite on Her Ankle Have a Special Meaning?
There is no sound
basis for claiming that a dog biting the ankle in a dream predicts an obstacle
in your daughter's education, future, or personal development.
Similarly, seeing
blood in a dream does not reliably indicate a coming loss, injury, or
particular outcome. Such details should not be used to make frightening
predictions about your daughter's future.
4.
What Should You Do After a Frightening Dream?
The Prophet
Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) taught Muslims how to respond to
disturbing dreams.
According to
authentic narrations in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, a
person who sees a disturbing dream should:
1.
Seek refuge in Allah from Satan and from the evil of the dream.
2.
Blow lightly to the left three times.
3.
Turn onto the other side if desired.
4.
Avoid dwelling on the dream or spreading it widely.
5.
Pray if they wish, as mentioned in the relevant narrations.
You may also
maintain your regular daily supplications and recite Ayat al-Kursi and Surah
Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas as part of your worship and remembrance of
Allah.
These practices
are acts of devotion and seeking Allah's protection; they should not be treated
as evidence that the dream reveals a supernatural threat.
5.
Should You Be More Concerned About Your Daughter?
Continue caring
for your daughter as you normally would. At around 14 years of age, she may
benefit from having a trusted parent who listens without judgment and makes it
easy for her to discuss school, friendships, personal safety, and other
concerns.
You can gently ask
how she is doing, but there is no need to interrogate her or assume that
someone is harming her because of the dream. If you have independent,
real-world reasons to suspect that she is being bullied, threatened, or harmed,
address those concerns appropriately.
There is also no
need to give charity out of fear that this particular dream predicts a
calamity. Charity is a virtuous act in Islam, but the dream does not establish
that a disaster is coming or that a specific payment is required to prevent it.
Conclusion
Dear sister, this
dream does not establish that your daughter has an enemy, that someone intends
to harm her, or that she will experience an accident or difficulty in the
future.
Seek Allah's
protection, maintain your supplications, and continue providing your daughter
with love, guidance, and a safe environment. Do not allow the dream to create
fear or suspicion without evidence.
May Allah protect
your daughter and your entire family, grant you tranquillity, and bless you
with goodness in this life and the Hereafter.
