QUESTION ❓
Assalamu
Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
A woman asks:
“I dreamed that
there was a celebration and I was wearing beautiful and expensive clothes.
People were taking pictures of me, but my friend did not come, and I felt upset
about her absence.
I also dreamed
that I had given birth to twins.
My friend then told me that she had dreamed of seeing me with a particular man and that the three of us had gone somewhere together. I also dreamed about the same man. In my dream, we went to prayer together and people were looking at me and pointing me out.
Please help me
understand these dreams.”
ANSWER ❗️
Wa
Alaikumussalam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
May Allah make
whatever is good in these dreams beneficial for you.
The first
principle to remember is that Islam does not give a fixed
interpretation for every symbol that appears in a dream. Therefore, we
should be careful about saying that expensive clothes definitely mean status,
twins definitely mean double wealth, or seeing a particular man at prayer
definitely means that he will become one's husband.
The Prophet ﷺ explained that dreams are of different
types. He said:
الرُّؤْيَا الصَّالِحَةُ مِنَ اللَّهِ، وَالْحُلْمُ مِنَ
الشَّيْطَانِ
Al-ru’yā
al-ṣāliḥatu min Allāh, wal-ḥulmu min al-shayṭān.
“A good
dream is from Allah, while a bad dream is from Satan.”
— Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 6985; Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2261
Dreams can also
reflect a person's thoughts, experiences, hopes and concerns while awake.
Consequently, several dreams occurring around the same subject do not
necessarily mean that they are predicting a future event.
1. The Celebration and Beautiful Clothes
Seeing oneself at
a celebration wearing attractive clothing may be a pleasant dream, and the
dreamer may take it as something hopeful.
However, there is
no authentic Islamic evidence establishing that expensive clothing in a
dream necessarily means future wealth, social status or a particular
forthcoming event.
Likewise, people
taking photographs of her does not establish that she will become famous or
that her “star will shine,” as the original interpretation claimed.
If the dream made
her happy, she may simply thank Allah and hope for goodness.
2. Her Friend's Absence
Feeling upset
because a friend did not attend the celebration may reflect the importance of
that friendship or a fear of being unsupported or separated from someone
important.
However, we cannot
confidently say that the dream proves that the friend will abandon her or that
there is a hidden problem between them.
Dream
interpretation should not be used to create suspicion between friends.
3. Giving Birth to Twins
The dream of
giving birth to twins should also not be treated as a guaranteed prediction of
double wealth, pregnancy, or two forthcoming blessings.
A dream of
childbirth may have many possible personal meanings, and there is no authentic
text establishing a universal rule that giving birth to twins in a
dream means receiving double prosperity.
Therefore, she may
regard it positively if it brought her happiness, but she should leave its
precise meaning to Allah.
4. Dreaming About the Same Man as Her Friend
The fact that both
women dreamed about the same man is interesting, but it does not
establish that the man is destined to marry the dreamer.
People can dream
about people they have recently seen, discussed, thought about, or encountered
in their environment. Similar dreams can therefore occur without carrying a
supernatural message.
There is no
authentic Islamic principle saying that when two friends dream about the same
person, this proves that person has a special connection with one of them.
5. Going to Prayer With the Man
Seeing oneself
going to prayer with someone is not proof that the person is one's future
husband or that he is necessarily righteous.
Prayer is
certainly a virtuous act in Islam, but a dream involving someone
praying cannot be used as evidence of that person's actual character or future
relationship with the dreamer.
If the man is
genuinely being considered for marriage in real life, his religion, character,
conduct, responsibility and compatibility should be assessed in reality—not
established through dreams.
Allah says:
وَلَا تَقْفُ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ عِلْمٌ
Wa lā
taqfu mā laysa laka bihi ʿilm.
“And do
not pursue that of which you have no knowledge.”
— Qur’an 17:36
6. What Should She Do?
If there is a real
marriage proposal involving this man, she should not accept or reject him
solely because of these dreams.
Instead, she
should:
·
examine his religion and character;
·
seek information about his conduct and responsibilities;
·
consult trustworthy parents or elders;
·
consider genuine compatibility;
·
pray Ṣalāt al-Istikhārah when making the decision; and
·
allow the matter to proceed through the proper channels.
A good dream can
bring comfort and hope, but it is not a source of certainty about the
future.
Conclusion
These dreams may
be pleasant and may leave the dreamer feeling hopeful, but Islam does not give
us sufficient evidence to say that they definitely predict marriage, a
particular husband, wealth, twins, fame or another specific future event.
She may thank
Allah for a pleasant dream and hope for whatever good Allah has decreed. At the
same time, she should base important decisions on reality, sound judgment,
consultation and Islamic guidance rather than dreams alone.
