QUESTION ❓
Assalamu
Alaikum, Sheikh.
Can men also experience the problem commonly referred to as Jinn al-‘Ashiq (a jinn allegedly becoming romantically or sexually attached to a human being), or is it something associated only with women?
ANSWER
❗️
Wa Alaikumus Salam
wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
All praise is due
to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and
blessings be upon him).
The term Jinn
al-‘Ashiq (الجن العاشق) is commonly used in
some Muslim communities to describe a supposed situation in which a jinn
becomes attached to a human being. However, it is important to distinguish
between beliefs circulating in society and matters established by the Qur'an
and authentic Sunnah.
1.
Can Men Experience Problems Attributed to Jinn?
Some people
believe that men, just like women, can experience what they describe as Jinn
al-‘Ashiq. However, there is no clear, authentic evidence
establishing a specific condition called Jinn al-‘Ashiq with a defined set of
symptoms affecting men or women.
The existence of
jinn is established in Islam, but this does not mean that every unusual
physical, emotional, sexual, or psychological experience should be attributed
to them.
Allah says:
Arabic:
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا
لِيَعْبُدُونِ
Transliteration:
Wa mā
khalaqtul-jinna wal-insa illā liyaʿbudūn.
English
translation:
“And I did not
create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.”
Reference: Qur'an 51:56.
This verse
establishes the existence of jinn as part of Islamic belief. It does not,
however, establish that a jinn can be identified as the cause of particular
sexual or marital difficulties based on symptoms alone.
2.
Are the Commonly Mentioned Symptoms Proof of Jinn al-‘Ashiq?
Some accounts
associate the following experiences with Jinn al-‘Ashiq:
·
Reduced interest in marriage or sexual intimacy.
·
Difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection.
·
Difficulty with ejaculation or sexual satisfaction.
·
Unusual fatigue during intimacy.
·
Feeling anxious or distressed when considering marriage.
·
Repeated dreams involving sexual encounters.
·
Persistent headaches, irritability, or emotional distress.
·
Difficulties developing or maintaining a relationship.
·
Sudden feelings of resentment towards a spouse.
·
Anxiety around women or excessive sexual thoughts.
However, none
of these experiences, individually or collectively, proves that a person is
affected by a jinn.
These symptoms may
have physical, psychological, emotional, relational, or other explanations. For
example, difficulties with sexual functioning may be associated with stress,
anxiety, hormonal changes, medication, or other health conditions. Relationship
difficulties may also arise from communication problems, unresolved conflict,
or personal circumstances.
It would therefore
be misleading to present a list of symptoms as a reliable diagnostic checklist
for a supernatural condition.
3.
What Should a Man Do If He Experiences These Problems?
A man experiencing
any of these difficulties should take a balanced approach that respects both
Islamic teachings and practical measures.
First:
Seek appropriate medical advice.
Persistent
erectile difficulties, unusual fatigue, headaches, or other physical symptoms
should be assessed by a qualified healthcare professional. Emotional distress,
persistent anxiety, and relationship difficulties may also benefit from
professional support.
Seeking medical
treatment does not contradict belief in Allah or reliance upon Him.
Second:
Maintain regular acts of worship.
A Muslim should
observe the obligatory prayers, recite the Qur'an, make authentic
supplications, and maintain the morning and evening adhkar. These are
established acts of worship that can strengthen one's relationship with Allah.
Third: Use
legitimate ruqyah when appropriate.
Ruqyah involves
reciting Qur'anic verses and authentic supplications while seeking healing from
Allah. It should not involve shirk, appeals to jinn, unexplained rituals, or
claims of certain supernatural diagnosis without evidence.
Fourth:
Avoid frightening and unsupported claims.
Do not conclude
that a jinn is responsible merely because of a dream, sexual difficulty, failed
marriage proposal, or change in feelings towards a spouse. Avoid anyone who
exploits such fears to demand money or encourages harmful practices.
4.
What Does Islam Teach About Dreams and Sexual Experiences?
Dreams involving
sexual activity do not, by themselves, establish that a jinn has become
attached to the dreamer.
Similarly,
experiencing a wet dream is a normal human occurrence and is not proof of
supernatural interference. The relevant purification requirements should be
observed according to Islamic law.
If a person
experiences recurring disturbing dreams, they may follow the Sunnah concerning
unpleasant dreams, seek Allah's protection, and avoid treating those dreams as
evidence of an unseen event.
CONCLUSION
Men may experience
physical, sexual, emotional, and marital difficulties that some people
attribute to Jinn al-‘Ashiq. Nevertheless, the existence of jinn does
not establish that this specific condition can be diagnosed through the
symptoms commonly circulated in society.
A person
experiencing such difficulties should maintain their religious practices, seek
appropriate medical or psychological support where necessary, and consult a
trustworthy Islamic scholar for sound religious guidance.
Above all, Muslims
should avoid frightening themselves or others with claims about the unseen that
lack reliable evidence.
May Allah protect
us from harm, grant healing to those who are suffering, and guide us to what is
correct.
