The Best Dua (Supplication)

What is the best Dua' obligatory for a Muslim to repeat, whether in the Salah (prayer) or otherwise?

𝑨𝑵𝑺𝑾𝑬𝑹❗️

The best Dhikr is saying:

لا إله إلا الله

(There is none worthy of worship except Allaah)

The best Dua is saying:

لا إله إلا الله

(There is none worthy of worship except Allaah).

However, there are supplications which are specific.

The best Dua' is to say:

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

O our Lord give us goodness in this world and goodness in the Hereafter and save us from the punishment of The Fire.

He repeats this at the end of the prayer, in Sujood (prostration) and at different times, because it is a comprehensive supplication.

He can also say:

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذَنْبِي كُلَّهُ دِقَّهُ وَجِلَّهُ أَوَّلَهُ وَآخِرَهُ سِرَّهُ وَعَلانِيَتَهُ

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ رِضَاكَ وَالجَنَّةَ ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ سَخَطِكَ وَالنَّارِ.

O Allaah forgive all my sins, the minute of them and the major of them, the first of them and the last of them, the ones committed secretly and openly. O Allaah, I ask of Your pleasure and for Paradise, and I seek refuge from Your displeasure and from the Hellfire.

There are comprehensive supplications such as:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْجَنَّةَ، وَمَا قَرَّبَ إِلَيْهَا مِنْ قَوْلٍ أَوْ عَمَلٍ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ النَّارِ وَمَا قَرَّبَ إِلَيْهَا مِنْ قَوْلٍ أَوْ عَمَلٍ

O Allaah, I ask of You for Paradise and that which brings me closer to it of statements or actions. And I seek refuge with You from the Hellfire and that which takes me closer to it of statements or actions.[2]

And in prostration one can say:

اللَّهُمَ اغْفِرْ لِي ذنبي، وَاغْفِرْ لِي وَارْحَمْنِي وَاهْدِنِي ، وَارْزُقْنِي وَعَافِنِي

O Allaah forgive me my sins, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, provide for me and pardon me.

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذَنْبِي كُلَّهُ دِقَّهُ وَجِلَّهُ أَوَّلَهُ وَآخِرَهُ سِرَّهُ وَعَلانِيَتَهُ

O Allaah forgive all my sins, the minute of them and the major of them, the first of them and the last of them, the ones committed secretly and openly .

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ ولجميع المسلمين، رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

O Allaah forgive me and my parents and all the Muslims, our Lord give us goodness in this world and goodness in the Hereafter and save us from the punishment of The Fire.

This is due to the statement of the Messenger - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam:

((أقرب ما يكون العبد من ربه وهو ساجد فأكثروا من الدعاء))

'The closest the slave of Allaah is to his Lord is when he is in Sajda (prostration), so make sure you make a lot of Dua.'

In another narration:

((وأما السجود فاجتهدوا في الدعاء فقمنٌ أن يستجاب لكم))

'As for the Sajood ( prostration ), then exert yourselves in making Dua so that it is worthy of being answered.'

Therefore, it is necessary that a lot of good Dua' is said; (such as) asking for Paradise, seeking refuge with Allaah from the Hellfire and asking for pardon:

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عُفُوٌّ كَرِيمٌ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

O Allaah, indeed You pardon generously and You love pardoning so pardon me.

اللهُّم أَصْلِح قَلبِي وَعملِي

O Allaah rectify my heart and my action.

اللهم اغْـفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ

O Allaah, forgive me and my parents.

A person seeks out the appropriate Dua'.
