Is it permitted to use lunar calendars or astronomical calculations to ascertain the beginning of the month of Ramadan?

𝐀𝗡𝗦𝐖𝗘𝐑❗️

The use of lunar calendars or astronomical calculations to determine the beginning of the month of Ramadan is not permitted, because it is something newly introduced (in contravention to the injuctions of the shar'iah). Depending upon this method is bid'ah. The prophet had made the beginning and end of the Ramadan fast conditional on the actual sighting of the moon by the eye without the use of any scientific instrument or astronomic calculations. There is also nothing to justify it in the deeds of the righteous people of the past.
