Dreaming of a Flashing Sky, Flying Fish, and a Man Wearing Ihram: An Islamic Perspective

The Question

Assalamu Alaikum, Sheikh.

I pray that you are well and wish you a good ending. I had a dream in which I was sitting down when I raised my head and saw the sky flashing with light. I then saw fish emerging and swimming around. One fish fell in front of me.

I noticed one of our scholars sitting beside me. He approached the fish and prostrated beside it. When he raised his head, he made a supplication. Then, the fish transformed into a handsome Arab man wearing ihram.

The scholar prostrated again, and the Arab man held the scholar by the neck, and they prostrated together. After they finished, the Arab man turned towards me and attempted to touch me. However, the scholar told him, “Do not touch her. Come, let us go.” They then left, and I followed them from behind until I woke up.

What is the Islamic interpretation of this dream? May Allah reward you abundantly.

The Answer

Wa Alaikum Assalam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

May Allah grant you goodness, peace of mind, and steadfastness in faith.

It is understandable to wonder about the meaning of such a vivid and unusual dream. However, an important principle in Islam is that we cannot confidently determine the meaning of a particular dream or claim that it predicts specific events without reliable evidence.

1. What Does Islam Teach About Dreams?

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) explained that dreams fall into three categories: a good dream that is glad tidings from Allah, a distressing dream from Satan, and a dream arising from what occupies a person's thoughts.

This classification is reported in Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2263, although numbering may vary by edition.

Therefore, a dream may bring comfort or encouragement, but its individual symbols should not automatically be treated as messages about future events.

2. Seeing a Flashing Sky

The flashing sky in your dream may have personal significance, but there is no established Islamic evidence that allows us to conclude that it necessarily signifies the opening of the doors of provision, the acceptance of supplications, or an increase in spiritual rank.

A Muslim should continue to hope for Allah's mercy, seek His guidance, and remain steadfast in worship, regardless of the dream.

3. Seeing Fish Swimming and One Falling Before You

Some traditional dream-interpretation works associate fish with different meanings, including provision in certain circumstances. However, such interpretations are not definitive religious rulings, and we should not attribute a particular interpretation to Ibn Sirin without a reliable reference.

Consequently, the fish in this dream cannot be taken as proof that a specific financial opportunity, blessing, or religious achievement will come to you soon.

Continue to seek lawful provision and ask Allah to bless whatever He grants you.

4. Seeing a Scholar Prostrating and Making Supplication

Prostration and supplication are important acts of worship in Islam. Their appearance in a dream, however, does not establish that the scholar possesses a special spiritual status, that a particular supplication has been accepted, or that you have received a special divine message.

If the dream encourages you to increase your worship, make sincere supplications, and seek beneficial knowledge, you may take that as a personal reminder to do good. Nevertheless, the dream itself does not prove that Allah has promised you a particular outcome.

5. Seeing a Man Wearing Ihram

Ihram is associated with the rites of Hajj and Umrah. Seeing someone wearing ihram in a dream does not, by itself, establish that you will perform Hajj or Umrah, meet a particular person, or receive a specific blessing.

If you hope to visit the Sacred House of Allah, you may ask Allah to make that possible. Your hope should rest on supplication and trust in Allah, not on a claim that the dream guarantees the journey.

6. The Scholar Preventing the Man from Touching You

This part of the dream should also be approached cautiously. We cannot conclude from it that the scholar is protecting you from a hidden danger, that a supernatural being was involved, or that you have a special spiritual relationship with either figure.

A dream alone is insufficient evidence to establish such claims. There is no need to become fearful or to assume that something unusual is happening in your life because of this experience.

7. What Should You Do After Such a Dream?

If the dream left you feeling peaceful, thank Allah and continue with beneficial deeds. You may share a pleasant dream with someone you trust who wishes you well, but avoid treating speculative interpretations as certain knowledge.

Most importantly:

·         Maintain your obligatory prayers and other acts of worship.

·         Make supplications for guidance, protection, and lawful provision.

·         Seek beneficial Islamic knowledge from trustworthy scholars.

·         Do not make major decisions solely because of a dream.

·         Avoid anyone who uses dream interpretations to frighten you, demand money, or persuade you that you possess a special supernatural status.

Allah reminds us that knowledge of the unseen belongs to Him alone:

Arabic:

قُل لَّا يَعْلَمُ مَن فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ الْغَيْبَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ

Transliteration:

Qul lā yaʿlamu man fis-samāwāti wal-arḍil-ghayba illallāh.

English translation:

“Say, ‘None in the heavens and earth knows the unseen except Allah.’”

Reference: Qur'an 27:65.

Conclusion

This is a vivid dream containing several religious and unusual images. Nevertheless, the Qur'an and authentic Sunnah do not provide a reliable basis for assigning definite meanings to all its details or promising that particular events will follow.

You may take the experience as an opportunity to remember Allah, strengthen your faith, and continue seeking what is good. Ask Allah for beneficial knowledge, righteous deeds, and a good ending, while leaving the unknown meaning of the dream to Him.
