QUESTION ❓
Assalamu Alaikum,
Please, is there any special reward for giving charity every Friday that is greater than the reward for giving charity on other days, or is the reward the same regardless of the day? Thank you.
ANSWER
❗️
Wa Alaikumussalam Warahmatullahi
Wabarakatuh.
Charity (ṣadaqah) is one of
the great acts of worship in Islam, and its virtue is not restricted to Friday.
A Muslim may give charity on any day and receive great reward from Allah.
Allah says:
Transliteration:
Yas’alūnaka mādhā yunfiqūn, qul mā anfaqtum min khayrin fa-lil-wālidayni
wal-aqrabīna wal-yatāmā wal-masākīni wabni as-sabīl; wa mā tafʿalū min khayrin
fa-inna Allāha bihi ʿalīm.
Translation:
“They ask you what they should spend. Say, ‘Whatever good you spend is for
parents, relatives, orphans, the poor and needy, and travellers. And whatever
good you do, surely Allah knows it.’”
Qur’an 2:215
The Prophet ﷺ also taught that charity is encouraged every day. He said:
“Every morning, two angels come
down. One of them says, ‘O Allah, compensate the one who spends,’ while the
other says, ‘O Allah, destroy the one who withholds.’”
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1442; Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim
1010.
This demonstrates the importance of
generosity and encourages Muslims not to restrict charity to a particular day.
Is
Friday Special for Charity?
Friday itself is certainly a
virtuous day.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
«خَيْرُ
يَوْمٍ طَلَعَتْ عَلَيْهِ الشَّمْسُ يَوْمُ الْجُمُعَةِ»
Transliteration:
Khayru yawmin ṭalaʿat ʿalayhi ash-shamsu yawmu al-jumuʿah.
Translation:
“The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday.”
Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 854.
Because Friday is a virtuous day, a
Muslim may increase acts of worship and good deeds on it, including charity,
remembrance of Allah, sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, reciting the Qur’an and other righteous deeds.
However, we should be careful about
making a specific claim that charity given on Friday has a particular
multiplied reward—such as ten times, seventy times, or one hundred times
greater than charity given on other days—because there is no sound hadith
establishing such a specific number from the Prophet ﷺ.
Therefore, such numbers should not
be attributed to the Prophet ﷺ without reliable
evidence.
Can
Someone Make Friday Their Regular Charity Day?
Yes.
If someone chooses to give charity
every Friday because it is convenient for them or because they wish to increase
their good deeds on a virtuous day, there is nothing wrong with that.
However, they should not believe
that giving charity on Friday is obligatory, nor should they claim that
Islam has prescribed a particular additional reward for it without evidence.
Likewise, if a needy person requires
help on Monday, Tuesday or any other day, one should not delay helping them
simply because Friday has not arrived.
A person's urgent need may make
immediate assistance more appropriate.
The
Importance of Sincerity
What matters greatly in charity is
sincerity and seeking Allah's pleasure.
Allah says:
Transliteration:
Lan tanālū al-birra ḥattā tunfiqū mimmā tuḥibbūn; wa mā tunfiqū min shay’in
fa-inna Allāha bihi ʿalīm.
Translation:
“You will never attain righteousness until you spend from what you love. And
whatever you spend—surely Allah is All-Knowing of it.”
Qur’an 3:92
A person should therefore give
charity sincerely for Allah, not merely to be seen by others.
The Prophet ﷺ also encouraged Muslims not to underestimate even a small act
of charity. He said:
“Protect yourselves from the Fire
even by giving half of a date in charity.”
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1417; Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim
1016.
Thus, the value of charity is not
determined only by the amount given. Sincerity, the lawful source of the
wealth, and the needs of the recipient are also important.
Conclusion
Charity has great virtue every
day, and Muslims should give it whenever they are able.
Friday is a particularly virtuous
day, so increasing good deeds on Friday is commendable. Giving charity on
Friday is therefore a good practice, but we should not claim a specific
multiplied reward for Friday charity unless there is authentic evidence
establishing it.
If you have made it a habit to give
charity every Friday, you may continue doing so with a sincere intention. At
the same time, do not neglect a genuine need that arises on another day.
May Allah accept our charity, purify
our intentions, bless what we give, and make our charity a means of mercy and
forgiveness.

best.
